VALE JACK WARDELL

Vale Jack Wardell
The Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association was saddened today to hear of the passing of Mr Jack Wardell at 6.00am Wednesday 17th September at the age of 82 after a short illness.
Jack Wardell has been a member of the Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association  from the mid 1970′s and is a Life Member of the BGRA after serving on the Committee of the Association for more than twenty years.

He maintained his interest in greyhounds until he fell ill in the last couple of months and attended majority of race meetings conducted in Bendigo.

Jack was one of the first to be honoured with a GRV long service medallion for his services to the Bendigo Club over a 20 year period.

He was a tireless voluntary worker for the association performing the task of preparing the track for racing and trialling during the 1980s when the club didn’t have a full time curator and in the changeover from the Bramich lure back to the cable lure system he performed countless hours of manual work for the project.

Jack also acted in a voluntary capacity at race meeting as judge, assistant judge, starter and tractor driver between races.
In his lifetime jack was a very competent hobby owner/trainer racing several high quality greyhounds with the best being Midway Blue, a brilliant short course sprinter who won countless races at the old Canterbury Park track in Eaglehawk where she was the greyhound of the year.

Jack bred a litter out of midway Blue sending her to Temlee when he stood for a service fee of $1000 which was out of the reach of most hobby owners.

This litter proved to be very successful with one of her daughters Temway Blue winning greyhound of the year in the early days of Lords Raceway.

The best city class dog that he trained was Spinifex who was a brilliant young greyhound winning the Lord Mayors Cup at Olympic Park.

Jack is survived by his wife Audrey, son Peter and daughters Yvonne and Kelly.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized as yet.
