13th ANNUAL GOLD RUSH CARNIVAL KICKS OFF THIS WEEK AT BENDIGO
The annual Gold Rush Carnival at Bendigo, now in its 13th year, gets underway at Lord’s Raceway Thursday night when the first nine of sixteen heats for the Golden City Concrete Plumbing Gold Rush Maiden will highlight the Thursday night program.
It is rare these days in any series to get more than eight or ten heats and in particular maiden series’ have dropped off in entries in the past year or so however the Gold Rush series, over the popular 425m journey and offering a winner’s purse of $10,000 continues to thrive.
No less than 131 entries were received for the feature maiden series and the series is arguably the most popular maiden series in Australia today. With an honour roll that includes Prang, Dyna Bert and Ima Geisha Girl as well as boasting the commencement of the racing careers of many star performers such as Grigorieva Bale, Peter Rocket and Dyna Lachlan to name just a few the Gold Rush series is always a great form line for the future and no doubt the 2017 version will be no different.
Thursday night’s meeting is the first of seven race meetings in just eleven days for the Bendigo GRA with Friday afternoon rounding out the Gold Rush heats before Sunday’s program features heats of the Bendigo Advertiser Belle of Bendigo and McIvor Road Vets Beau of Bendigo.
The entire carnival concludes on Easter Sunday with a bumper afternoon of racing that hosts five feature events including the $12,000 to the winner Topcat Video Stayers Cup as well as a big children’s day as part of the Greyhound Holiday Fun promotion across Victoria and Easter Saturday night also has a family focus with plenty happening for the kids.
