Fernando Bale can go even quicker in the final of the Bendigo Cup according to Club Manager, Troy Harley.
Speaking on RSN’s Racing Ahead with Shane Anderson, Harley said that it was the first time Fernando Bale had seen Bendigo and that it was his first run since returning from Sydney where the starting boxes are different.
“He had come back from a three-week campaign in Sydney only eight days earlier and had never seen Bendigo and dropped back to pretty much a short-course distance of 425m.
“He’s a once in a generation greyhound, there’s no doubt about that.
“There were blokes here on Sunday leaning over the fence taking ‘selfies’ of themselves with the greyhound… he has certainly captured the imagination of the public.”
The revelation that Fernando could go even faster came after Harley spoke to experienced trainer Jason Thompson after the run on Sunday.
“I was talking to Jason Thompson the trainer of the previous record holder Black Magic Opal… he said that it wouldn’t surprise him if Fernando Bale could get down to somewhere near 23.20 secs (his record set last week was 23.386 secs).
“It’s scary to think what he can do Friday night,” the experienced Club Manager said.
The white and brindle superstar has won 14 races in a row and is aiming to equal Miata’s longest winning streak of 15 this Friday night in what would be another step toward greyhound racing immortality.
“He’s going for 15 in a row on Friday night and has won 19 out of his last 20.
“He’s heading towards champion status, there’s no doubt about that.”
Aside from Fernando Bale, Ronray Spirit is another fantastic story from the Cup field. He is chasing his third Country Cup victory for the year and is aiming to win the $50K Country Cups bonus from GRV.
Harley says there is plenty of entertainment for the adults and the kids this Friday night in what is sure to be a memorable night of greyhound racing.
