James Van de Maat may be a young pup in greyhound racing terms, but that hasn’t stopped him from sprouting about the mighty Fernando Bale ahead of the greyhound’s appearance in Friday night’s Group 2 Southern Cross Ten Bendigo Cup.
RSN Racing & Sport Race Caller James is joined by Sky Racing’s Simone Fisher to preview the race, where they discuss Fernando Bale’s dominant heat win and advise punters on how to make a profit on the big race.
“I think this greyhound is the most perfect chaser we’ve seen in a very long time,” Van de Maat said in GRVextra’s Bendigo Cup Preview.
“Have we ever seen a greyhound where it doesn’t matter what distance he is running over or who he is up against – we just expect him to win? Trainers are thinking we can’t beat this greyhound…we are running for second spot.”
While reluctant to compare greyhounds from different eras, Simone was also quick to heap praise on the champ.
“To come back to 425m after running over 500 metres and break Black Magic Opal’s track record is unbelievable. It wouldn’t matter what (sprint) distance you put him over, I think he would give the record a real shake,” she said.
