History

The Bendigo Cup was first run in 1957 when won by Cantee over 400 yards at the Bendigo GRA’s original location at Eaglehawk. The race was conducted over 528 metres for a few years in the 1970s. When the club moved to Lords Raceway in 1978 the Bendigo Cup was conducted over 430 metres every year up until 2011 (except 2001 when run over the middle distance of 545 metres). It has been held over 425 metres since Lords Raceway underwent a redevelopment in 2012.
